For the first 48 hours try to eat only soft foods like soups and stews, which should be served warm but not overly hot. If you have been prescribed pain medication, alcohol should be strictly avoided. After a few days you can slowly start to return to your normal diet.
Immediately after your surgery you may experience some discomfort and swelling. Swelling will usually go down within 48 hours but your discomfort may linger for a bit longer. It’s normal to see some blood in the first 24 hours following surgery. Depending on what type of oral surgery you’ve had, your total healing time can take anywhere from one week to one month. Your dentist will let you know your expected post-surgery recovery time.
