Dental Crowns | Tooth Crowns

Dental crowns are used to restore the cosmetic appearance and function of damaged, decayed or missing teeth or to strengthen a compromised or weakened tooth. Typically made of porcelain, gold alloy or a base metal alloy, a dental crown is applied directly over your tooth to provide much-needed support and protection. These are some of the most common reasons why our dentists at Skyview Ranch Dental Clinic recommend dental crowns for Calgary patients:

  • You have a broken tooth
  • You have a missing tooth
  • You have a discoloured tooth
  • Your tooth has been worn down to the enamel
  • You need a dental bridge to close a gap caused by missing teeth
  • You need to cover a dental implant

What’s Involved In A Dental Crown Procedure?

Getting dental crowns in Calgary typically requires two dental appointments. During the first visit, your dentist will examine your tooth to ensure it’s capable of supporting a dental crown. They may also begin filing your tooth down in preparation for the crown. If your tooth is severely damaged, it may need filled in in order to support the crown. We’ll make an impression of your teeth and gums, so that we can draw an exact design of your dental crown in our state-of-the-art lab. You’ll typically have a temporary crown in place at the end of the first visit. During your second visit, we’ll remove the temporary crown and replace it with the permanent one. Be aware that your mouth may take some time to get used to your new dental crown. However, in time, your dental crown should look, feel and function just like a regular tooth.
